Dr. Anemone Fresh is a board certified naturopathic physician, acupuncturist and herbalist. She is committed to providing high-quality patient-centered care and has a passion for working with underserved populations. She enjoys collaborating with other health care providers and patients to provide compassionate, individualized, holistic care. Dr. Fresh recognizes the power of presence and the importance of deep listening as integral to your healing journey. She honors the opportunity for personal growth that presents itself alongside illness or imbalance.

Dr. Fresh completed a two-year-long clinical residency in Portland, Oregon, where she focused on adjunctive oncology and management of chronic illness. We are excited to announce her arrival at then end of March 2022.

Dr. Fresh knew from a very young age she wanted to practice medicine and studied pre-med during her undergraduate years. Nutrition has always been integral to her understanding of health and eventually led her to change course from a conventional medical track to a naturopathic medical education.

Master of Science, Oriental Medicine | National University of Natural Medicine, 2019

Dr. Fresh has been practicing qi gong since 2010, which introduced her to some of the principles of East Asian Medicine. The Master of Science in Oriental Medicine program dramatically shifted Dr. Fresh’s understanding of physiology and healing to incorporate a more holistic and functional awareness of the human body. Her MSOM program provided her with a foundation in of both western and eastern medical science. As an MSOM, Dr. Fresh has been trained in the five branches of oriental medicine – Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Nutrition and Dietary Therapy, Tui Na Oriental Bodywork and Therapeutic Massage, Qi Gong and Tai Chi – as well as modern biomedical science and diagnostics in physiology, microbiology, pathology, radiology, and public health.

Dr. Fresh completed intern rotations in community health clinics, primary care, pediatrics, IV therapy, minor surgery, transgender care, and herbal medicine. She also completed an extensive preceptorship in integrative oncology , pediatrics, women’s health, endocrinology, gastroenterology, homeopathy and primary care.

The National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) is an American Association of Naturopathic Medical Colleges (AANMC) Member School.

Dr. Fresh will be joining our practice in Middlebury, Vermont at the end of March 2022.

NATUROPATHIC PHYSICIAN and acupuncturist, An hao natural health care clinic and immune enhancement project

Dr. Fresh provided primary care and adjunctive naturopathic care at a very busy clinic, where she worked with a naturopath and acupuncturist with 35 years of experience and saw over 4,000 patients with a wide variety of conditions. She loves using food as medicine, lifestyle counseling, mind-body medicine, acupuncture, and herbal medicine in her approach. Dr. Fresh has additional training in perineural injection therapy and gentle bodywork such as craniosacral and myofascial release therapies and enjoys incorporating these modalities into her treatments. In addition she provided naturopathic consultations and acupuncture at the Immune Enhancement Project, a community clinic, to patients with cancer, autoimmune diseases, and chronic pain.

COMMUNITY CLINIC ACUPUNCTURIST,mutual AID ACUPUNCTURE

From 2020 to 2022 Dr. Fresh organized with Acupuncturists Without Borders and the Social Justice Action Center to develop a free community clinic for the houseless population of Portland, OR. She participated in ongoing organizing and development meetings and monthly free clinics with the goal of expanding free clinics to underserved communities.

Residency

After completing her doctorate at the National University of Natural Medicine, Dr. Fresh performed her residency at An Hao Natural Health Care Clinic under Edythe Vickers, ND, LAc from 2019 to 2021. This experience solidified her passion of working with people with chronic disease and cancer. She also participated in outside rotations at Immune Enhancement Project, Ray Hickey Hospice, Abbey Road Clinic and Legacy-Emmanuel Hospital in Oregon.

Dr. Fresh worked during her graduate education as a teaching assistant for a variety of courses in both the naturopathic school and Chinese medical school, including anatomy, cardiology, shitasu massage, palpation and perception, acupuncture technique and lab classes. She continued to work for the school after graduation as a teaching assistant for scalp and auricular acupuncture classes.

Dr. Fresh has been practicing meditation since 2007 and enjoys providing meditation instruction and facilitating classes. She has facilitated retreats in the Shambhala Buddhist tradition as well as retreats with a focus on mindfulness and social justice.

united states peace corps volunteer, turkmenistan

Dr. Fresh completed a tour in the US Peace Corps in Turkmenistan, Central Asia where she volunteered as a health educator. Working and living with the people of Central Asia for two years dramatically altered Dr. Fresh’s life course, as she discovered the wisdom and magic of herbal medicine and the local folk medicine. This experience led her to study herbal medicine and eventually find resonance with naturopathic and Chinese medicine.
